5G Cell Towers Coming to Your Property

Posted on September 30, 2019October 1, 2019 by Staff
5G equipment installed in Cardiff. The antenna is the cylindrical container at the top, it sends out 5G microwave signals for wifi and emits radiation in all directions.  The box above is apx 2 feet wide by 4 feet high and contains the equipment that amplifies the 5G signal.

5G is the next generation of wireless network technology that is already being installed in Encinitas. Currently, there are limited regulations for the installers to follow, which means they can setup the radio receivers at your property line without your permission (photo).

In August, the Encinitas City Council passed a new ordinance allowing these cell towers in Encinitas. Some Council members stated they passed the ordinance because they thought it could be amended.

Next the City held a community workshop that was attended by over 100 people. Speakers at the workshop asked the City to halt processing all permits for the 5G cell towers throughout the city until the Council made appropriate amendments to the ordinance they had already passed. Other speakers addressed health concerns, safety, enviromental impact, fire concerns, as well as property devaluation.

A summary of how other countries are managing 5G

Some Encinitas residents have created a change.org petition that has over 1,000 signatures. And, a website named Stop5GEncinitas can be found here.

On October 30th, the Encinitas City Council is addressing amending their 5G ordinance. Interested residents can attend and voice their concerns.
