A poem by Valerie Wagner
For over 40 years I’ve challenged
What the politicians view as right
Now once again the public
Must soon gather for a fight
Our Mayor Blakespear and her Council
Took a vote behind closed doors
To bring in many homeless
We are Lions hear our roars
As the mayor of our city
Be transparent hold the truth
We deserve the doors wide open
Or we’ll quickly change our booth
We hope you will consider
How important is our town
The location of the homeless
Will bring house values way down
Are you not aware of Cardiff
A homeless man lives there
In Glen Park beneath the benches
With his voice he’s quite a scare
He takes up space where families
Would like to share the time
Don’t forget we have an ordinance
Which says sleeping there’s a crime
Why can’t you make your focus
Not on grants for homeless votes
Nor on five things you’ve accomplished
Rather how to please us folks
Along with your council voting
You’ve lost the trust we had
We’ll watch with eyes wide open
This decision will be bad
In addition to your voting
The location choice was poor
Y.M.C.A. was built for families
Will hurt them to the core
To conclude we look for leaders
Who will make our city great
Please rescind on this decision
Before its impact is too late
