The La Costa Canyon Lady Mavericks have returned home to Encinitas as National Champions. The team of eight 8-12 year-old girls coached by County Supervisor Kristin Gaspar clinched the title at the Pop Warner National Championships held at Disney World following several big wins.
To qualify for Nationals a team must first place in the top two at local competition facing all San Diego County teams. Next, the top two teams advance to compete against teams in the Western region of the United States including; Arizona, California, Hawaii, and Nevada. The top two teams then advance to represent the entire Western region of the US at Nationals.
La Costa Canyon Pop Warner was well represented at Cheer Nationals with two Junior Pee Wee teams coached by Supervisor Kristin Gaspar placing first in both local and regional competition. The LCC Junior Varsity team coached by Shannon Smith also advanced to Nationals placing second at local and regional competition.
