Introducing SDA’s Equestrian Team

San Dieguito Academy has added another team to its sports lineup: The Mustangs Equestrian Team. They finished their first season with 17 riders and placed an impressive 6th place (out of 38 teams) after 10 competitions.

The team was started by Cardiff parent Troy Holway who will continue on as the team manager. Their coach is Dayle Fisher who trains at Emily Esau Stables in Rancho Sante Fe. Currently, SDA is allowing the team to compete as a club team, but Troy hopes to get full recognition as a varsity sport soon. There are 38 schools that compete in the Orange County Interscholastic Equestrian League.

Horse jumping is a very time-consuming sport that leaves little time for other activities. Troy said, “I wanted to make sure these kids have a team sport experience that will enhance their high school years. They all know each other through their barns so there’s a great deal of San Diego bonding at the competitions.”

Contact the team through their Instagram page or call SDA for more info.
