Is it Safe To Stay in My House During Restoration?

Posted on June 23, 2020June 23, 2020 by Staff

When it comes to flooding, Mother Nature can sometimes be brutal. Statistics from the Center for Neighborhood Technology show that over the last years, millions of homes across America have been affected by flooding due to overflow from rivers and streams. Depending on the situation, water damage can be very destructive and expensive not to mention that if left unrestored, it can lead to molding which can be very problematic for your health and the stability of the house’s structure.

After experiencing a flood, you need to think of the process of home restoration in order to be able to live in a safe environment. But starting this process undoubtedly prompts the question of whether or not it is safe to continue living at home.  Well, there are a lot of factors that need to be taken into consideration when deciding if it’s better to temporarily move or not.

  1. The State of the House

Staying in a house that has been damaged by flooding due to a natural disaster is not considered safe for a variety of reasons, one of which is the potential formation of mold. After water damage occurs, it is possible that mold and mildew can start growing even within one day. If they do, it means that you might also need professional mold removal as the presence of mold in the house can pose health risks for you and your family, especially if it’s located in the bedrooms.

In the process of home restoration, professionals might sometimes need chemicals in order to clean up water damage and mold. These types of toxic fumes are not safe for breathing in so it’s best to stay away for a couple of days after they’ve been sprayed into your home.

It is also important to assess the extent of the damage. If the water damage has reached the rooms you regularly use such as the bedroom or living room, it is clear that while the restoration process is ongoing, you need to find a temporary home.

  • The Length of the Process

The restoration process can be long and difficult, not to mention that it entails a lack of privacy. Depending on the extent of the damage, it can take weeks or even months to complete and can be very tiresome. Water restoration teams need to constantly walk in and out of the house, removing things and working on repairs, sometimes without warning. In order to perform this task, professionals use noisy equipment and the process might get pretty chaotic and messy. So aside from the safety reasons for finding temporary accommodation, there is also the stress factor which might increase if you choose to remain on-site and it can even affect your emotional and mental health.

  • Where to Temporarily Move

If you need to find temporary accommodation in Encinitas, the best option is to look for owner direct property rentals for which you can find some great deals. This brings a lot of advantages, not just because you have complete privacy, plenty of space, comfort and you can rent for however long you need, but also because you might just end up feeling like on a vacation. Especially if you rent a property with an ocean view, near the beach in Encinitas.

Renting a vacation property as a temporary home can have great mental benefits during a stressful period like this and it can give you the break you so very well deserve.
