Mark Muir Announces He’ll Run for Re-election

Posted on June 13, 2018February 26, 2019 by Staff

By City of Encinitas Councilmember Mark Muir

After much consideration, I am proud to announce that I will be seeking re-election to the Encinitas City Council. I am running because I want to continue my strong track record of focusing on fiscal responsibility, prioritizing public safety, investing in our roads and park, and protecting our beautiful open spaces.

I will be honored to represent District 3, which includes Cardiff (see district map below). Previously, Councilmembers represented the entire city, but due to a change in the law, we will now run to represent specific districts in which we live.

My decision to run was made easier when the only other candidate to announce for District 3 vocalized support to build a high-density development project on the corner of Lake and Birmingham Drives and to pave over Cardiff’s natural terrain with the highly controversial Cardiff Rail Trail.

Residents of District 3 deserve a representative that fiercely defends Cardiff’s unique natural qualities, community character, and overall small beach town quality of life. I am no stranger to the community having spent two terms on the council and many prior years as your Fire Chief.

As your Councilmember, my goal from day one has been to protect our community character to the maximum extent possible recognizing that people live in Encinitas because of its unique charm and high quality of life. My voting record and steadfast adherence to guiding principles have allowed me to achieve this goal.

With your support, I will continue to

– Pursue a “Community-Based Vision” for our City;
– Maintain Community Character and infrastructure for our neighborhoods;
– Propose Balanced Budgets with required outcomes measurement;
– Prioritize Public Safety;
– Make Public Services more Effective and Efficient;
– Strive for an Environmentally and Economically Sustainable City;

I will also continue to oppose those bad projects like the high-density housing development on Lake Drive while supporting good projects like undergrounding Birmingham Drive utilities and other needed road, bike and trail improvement.

We need to keep our community promises of preserving our past while enhancing our future! I am privileged to serve as your Councilman and look forward to seeing you out on the campaign trail to earn your continued support for another four years.

If you have a community concern or interest, please don’t hesitate to let me know. You can email me at chiefmarkmuir@gmail.com.
