Off Shore

by Brad Miller, Cardiff Poet & Author

I see a whale
Spout!
In the glare of afternoon sun
Setting behind green waves

Pushing surfers toward shore
Where sandpipers pinch sandcrabs
Out of their temporary shelters
Of water and foam

Our children will try to hide
But time will find them all
And take them to where we
Will wait for them
Our arms strong
Reassuring
Yet forbearance builds like the rising surf
And we are cast out into the wilderness again.
~Brad Miller
