A comparison of the candidates for Cardiff and District 3. The following quotes from Mark Muir (incumbent) and Jody Hubbard (challenger) are taken directly from their statements during the Candidates Forum at Ada Harris Elementary last month.
The Top 10 List, below, has been gathered from the Candidates Forum, meeting minutes and public videos, as well as recently published news articles.
A VISION FOR ENCINITAS
Hubbard: “My vision is I want to see us have a lot more complete streets. I want separated bike lanes to all the major retail services. And remember, with electric bikes, hills are no longer a problem.”
Muir: “I hope that we retain the charm and character of our small beach town community. I grew up in this area hanging out at the beach. The plan that I see is a community-based plan, not a Mark Muir based plan.”
STRENGTHS AND WEAKNESSES
Muir: “One of my strengths is my ability to listen to people and to break down the filters to understand what the issues are. And I get along with people even if I don’t agree with them. Also, my experience with public policy and leading large organizations like the San Diego County Water Authority, which is the largest public organization in San Diego County. My weakness is that I get impatient – it takes forever to get things done.”
Hubbard: “I’ve talked to residents and I know what’s important to them – it’s safe modes of transportation for all users. I have a vision for a better place and I’m tenacious about it. We’re all a little resistant to change. If you have a vision you know to push through that. When that trail or that opening gets done people that are on the other side of it will recognize what a fabulous thing it is. They appreciate you have a vision and that you pushed. My weakness is that I’m an overachiever.”
