YOU NEED AN ARK, I NOAH GUY who lives on Second Street with a boat! Heavy rains create flooding throughout Encinitas, especially in Leucadia (unless you’re a Downtown Encinitas facebook poster with
Precipitation in the San Diego region has been well above average for Water Year (WY) 2019. The table below shows cumulative rainfall totals since October 1, 2018, for Lindbergh Field and Ramona Airport. These locations are geographically representative of coastal and inland regions. Both inland precipitation and coastal precipitation are significantly above normal to date, measured at 166 percent of normal at Lindbergh Field and 176 percent of normal at Ramona Airport.
If your home is susceptible to flooding, be prepared, have a good plan and monitor the local weather conditions. While considering the impact of flooding, you should also consider the opportunity of utilizing rain barrels. Although average rainfall in San Diego County is just under ten inches annually, even light rain can carry a lot of water, along with pollutants into waterways and to our beaches. Capturing this water can provide several gallons of water for later re-use. For example, a roof with a 2,000-square-foot surface area can capture 300 gallons from only a quarter-inch of rain. Fifty-gallon barrels are on sale for $90, with a final cost of $55 after a $35 rebate from water wholesaler Metropolitan Water District of Southern California.

And, with more rain on the way this weekend, keep an eye out for the Boathouses out in the water….
